We are in the process of getting divorced and unlike alot of people we want to do this amicably and have pretty much sorted things out ours selves. If fact getting on better than when we were together. We've been to a few solicitors and the bottom line is they really want us to fight it out and spend £££ to get divorced. We have 2 children and we have both agreed that she and the kids can have the family home.
My question(s) is: (a) is there a cost effective way of getting divorced without solicitors winding each other up and making the whole process more unpleasent than it already is.
(b) we were told by an accountant (supposedly expert in finacial issues in divorce) that we would have to sell the property so that I would get a financial portion of the equity or have my wife pay that portion (financially impossible) even if I agreed that the house would be my wifes.
Look forward to help.

In response to your questions:
(a) have you looked into mediation - a bit cheaper than solicitors (by the hour) and you may end up reaching an agreement with fewer sessions.
(b) when you say you have agreed the house will be your wife's, does this mean you are willing to just walk away from the house? If so, you need to consider if you would continue to be a joint name on the mortgage (if any). This might prevent you getting your own mortgage. Please provide more info on this.
