How much equity can she have

My wife of 20 years walked out on us, me and my 2 girls without warning totally out of the blue.

I don't really want to sell our family home, can i make her contribute to the mortgage (if so how much) and if i sell whether next month or in two years time will her equity share be at the value the house was sold at or the equity of the value of the house when she walked out.  Will her equity share depend on the amount she contributes.

I have a similar query/problem.  My partner has been seperated from his wife for 2 1/2 years and at this time she moved out of the property which was in his sole name - he purchased it prior to their marriage.  She has not made any contributions since she moved out and according to him her contributions were limited when they were married - she did not contribute financially and he had to do  the lion's share of child-care/looking after the home.  He is selling his house and she has now declared a financial interest in it.   He has sole custody of their son.  Any help and advice or experiences would be very much appreciated!
