Taking care of yourself.

Hi, would like to pass on a tip that I found very helpful when I first  divorced.  Had 3 young children, very little money and lots of work to do.  One day a week was for relaxing and enjoying being together - the children and I, so we packed a picnic on Saturday evenings and off we went for the day on Sunday.

Always try and have something to look forward to at the week end, trip to the park, walk, going to a museum.  You will need to know what you are going to do swimming, collecting blackberries, look at some ruins, take photos gather a few things together during the week ready.

Monday morning you, and the children, feel happy looking back over  the week end.

If you look after your  well being you will improve your health and be able to look after the children, work and most things that life throws at you.

But, how does an older person look after themselves and improve their wellbeing??  Any tips will be most welcome!  Thank you!!

I liked your comments , I am presently separated from my wife who has left the marital home I am in my late 50,s and do a lot of gardening , and swimming to try to keep fit. There is also the housework to do !! ( i always did this as I was the tidy one !)

The other brilliant thing I have done is to get a labrador from the rescue trust I have to walk her everyday, which is great and I meet people as well on the walks .dogs are great !

Wonderful replies and ideas here.

But the problem here is that I suffer from arthritis and am finding it increasingly difficult to exercise at all. Can barely walk some days. The gardening is even out.

I am in my late 50's too and have always been a very active person so now finding myself in the throws of divorce is very scary indeed as I am frightened of the future without a loving, caring man.  I just had this very romantic vision of us facing our old age together and toddling off into the twilight.

Rose-coloured specs now in bits on the floor.LOL

Jennyann - High strength Cod Liver Oil every day and plenty of fresh veggies that's your answer. Also sweep those broken bits of tinted glasses away right now - before you do yourself even more damage.  Keep at it we are all in the same boat...
